Comfort Movies

Hi everyone! While being stuck inside, I thought it might be nice to share my favorite comfort movies that are nice and relaxing to watch on a rainy day.

About Time (2013)Movie Review - 'About Time' - : NPR

The first movie that comes to mind is About Time. A romantic comedy about time travel. Unlike most time travel movies, this one focuses on living in the moment and appreciating life. The characters are so delightful from Tim’s family to his love interest, Mary (Rachel McAdams). Such a sweet movie to watch and feel cozy.

Frances Ha (2012)Frances Ha: The Green Girl | The Current | The Criterion Collection

Starring Greta Gerwig (who also wrote the screenplay), this black and white film follows Frances, a dancer, living in New York. The movie could be considered a love letter to her friendship with her friend Sophie, who Frances can’t deal growing apart from. In the film, Gerwig represents the struggles of being an adult and does it authentically.

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)this scene from "the royal tenenbaums" is going viral in light of ...

The Wes Anderson film, The Royal Tenenbaums is exactly what you would expect from Wes Anderson. My favorite scene is when Margot gets off the bus and Nico’s “These Days” plays during the scene. With the music and dysfunctional family storyline, this movie is fun to watch on a rainy day.

Love, Rosie (2014)Love, Rosie' Stars Lily Collins and Sam Claflin - The New York Times

For a romantic movie, there’s nothing better than a story about best friends who can’t get timing right. The will-they or won’t-they storyline in this movie is so sweet to watch. The characters are lovable and give the film that cozy, apart-of-the-family feeling.

I also really enjoy musicals. They make me feel cozy and comfortable. I don’t know about you, but here are some of my favorite comforting musicals:

God Help the Girl (2014)Stuart Murdoch's 'God Help the Girl' Does Something Pretty (and ...

Written by Belle & Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch, this film follows a girl who begins the film in a hospital, but wants to make music and start a band. Her journey throughout the film is nice and encouraging to watch. The music, location, and supporting cast make the film really comforting to watch.

Sing Street (2016)Sing Street': Sundance Review | Reviews | Screen

Another film about starting a band. Taking place in Ireland in the 1980s, this film captures the desire to escape the present and make something for yourself.

Music and Lyrics (2007) Music And Lyrics (2007) Movie Review from Eye for Film

A classic 2000’s rom-com. I don’t know what it is about this movie: the walks around New York, the cute songwriting dialogue between Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant’s characters, Sophie and Alex, or Sophie’s family, but this movie is just nice to watch.

That’s it. Comment any other comforting movies below. I love watching them.
